About Our Speakers

Lisha Burnett - Manager, External & Government Relations
Suncor Energy (U.S.A) Inc.

Lisha has responsibility for the stakeholder, government and external relations activities related to Suncor’s U.S. business and operations in Colorado and Wyoming, with the goal to support and enhance the company’s purpose and reputation. These businesses include crude oil trading, Colorado’s only petroleum refinery, pipelines and logistics, and marketing and sales operations. Suncor’s Commerce City refinery makes products important to the state’s economy, including gasoline and diesel for consumers, much of Denver International Airport’s (DIA) jet fuel, and paving-grade asphalt used on Colorado’s roads. Additionally, Lisha has accountability for Suncor’s community relations and social impact strategy and implementation in the U.S., including identifying and collaborating with diverse partners on a variety of projects and initiatives.

Lisha has worked for Suncor for more than 17 years and has over 24 years of experience in the fields of strategic and corporate communications, government and external affairs, and community relations in several high-profile industries including health care, academia, travel and tourism, and energy. Prior to her career in corporate communications and government relations, she was a journalist, writer, and an editor for a Colorado-based publishing company, and successfully launched a magazine focused on mountain living, which is still in publication today.

Lisha holds a bachelor’s degree from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and a master’s degree from the University of Colorado. She is a graduate of the Colorado Outward Bound School instructor training program where she spent time on mountaineering expeditions in Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Mountain range. She also earned her professional certification in corporate social responsibility from Boston College’s Center for Corporate Citizenship. Lisha serves on several boards of directors including the Colorado Petroleum Association and the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation and volunteers with several organizations including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, Kenzi’s Causes and Regis Jesuit High School. In 2015, The Denver Business Journalnamed her as a “Top 40 Women in Energy.” In 2021, Suncor recognized her and her peers in the communications and stakeholder relations team with the company’s “Suncor Excellence Award” for leadership during the COVID pandemic response. Outside of career, Lisha is an avid adventure seeker, skier, cyclist, runner, hiker, and is pursuing her yoga teacher certification. Her most important roles remain mom and wife; she enjoys life in between northeast Denver and Vail with her husband Keven and their children, Bridget, Peyton and Jake, and their Old English Sheepdog, “Powder.”
